she said listen to my words
I hint at more than I say
and only say what can be said
her laughter awoke delight
in ways he dreamed he could handle
he fancied he had her back
his hero to her damsel
he would take her words
and write poems of her
hoping she could hear
the echoes of her musings
their words flowed like flocks
of birds leaving for the winter
each heard only what they heard
and never told the other
