a young boy wanting
to speak to you again
to wrap you in his arms
joyously lifting you up
or a puppy flouncing
at your feet delighted
in your return after
months and months away
instead I stumble upon myself
embarrassed by my longing
and fall into formality
to hide my heart’s desire
why can’t I tell you
your meaning to me
